What is sugaring?
Sugaring is a natural alternative hair removal method to traditional waxing. The sugar paste is made of up SUAGAR +LEMON+WATER! Perfect for sensitive skin types . This all natural paste is free of dyes, chemicals, and resins which lead to rashes and irritation in traditional waxing! Check out the video below to see how sugaring is preformed!
What should I do to prepare for my sugaring appointment?
Your hair should be at least 1/4th of an inch (an uncooked grain of rice) long for best results. Anything shorter than that and I will attempt to extract it, but a follow up appointment might be needed. Please come showered and do not apply lotions, oils, deodorant, fragrances, etc. to the skin on the areas to be sugared prior to your service. Make sure to exfoliate your skin, but not 24 hours prior to your service to avoid and sensitivity.
Can I shave between appointments?
As tempting as it is to get rid of the stubble that grows in between appointments, shaving is counterproductive to sugaring. Hair grows in separate cycles and by shaving you ensure a more uneven result. Shaving will make your hair feel coarse and can cause more irritation and ingrown hairs. Lastly, shaving will make your next sugaring appointment more painful.
What are contraindications for sugaring?
If you are taking medications that thin the skin (such as Retin-A), blood thinners, or medications that cause you to be sun-sensitive (Example: Accutane, Differin, Renova) please have your doctor clear you for sugaring. Sugaring cannot be done over moles, cold sores or broken skin. If you just received a chemical peel or microdermabrasion to your face or body, please wait at least 7 days before getting sugared.
What is a typical maintenance schedule?
It is best to reschedule every 3-6 weeks. The best results are achieved when sugaring is done as a maintenance. This way you have less pain each service and less hair each service.
Can I still be sugared if I am on my period?
Yes, however you may be more sensitive in the few days leading up to your period and the first few days of your period. Some clients take an Ibuprofen 30 minute prior to their appointment.
Is sugaring during pregnancy safe?
Yes absolutely it is! My pregnant clients were able to come in throughout their whole pregnancy, but keep in mind that you might feel more sensitive.
Post care Sugar instructions:
- 24 hours after your service, stay clean, cool and free from friction.
- 24 hours after your service refrain from strenuous activity that might get sweat/bacteria on the freshly sugared area. This includes working out and or sexual activity. This may increase the chances of ingrown hairs.
- Please don’t suntan for about 48 hours after you’ve been sugared. You are freshly exfoliated and will want to avoid sun damage and burning.
- 5-7 days after being sugared start your weekly exfoliation(2-3 times a week) and moisturizing on the sugared area every night.
